Picking up your car hire at Menorca Airport

Picking up your hire car at Menorca Airport is very straight forward. Once you have your luggage, leave the Baggage Claim area and head into the terminal. The car hire desks are just outside in the Arrivals Hall. Look for the signs. You can’t miss them.

After you have found the agent that matches your hire car voucher and checked in, collect your keys and head to the Parking Garage. Your car hire supplier will give you directions to your car.

Returning your car hire at Menorca Airport

When it is time to drop off your rental car at Menorca Airport, return to the airport and enter the Parking Garage.  Once in the parking garage, follow the signs to your car rental supplier’s designated parking area.

Menorca Airport (MAH, LEMH) is 4.5 km from Mahon, the island’s capital. It is the least travelled of the Balearic Island Airports. Its sister Airports on Mallorca and Ibiza see much more passenger traffic. That said, Menorca Airport served 3,495,025 million passengers in 2019, so it manages to hold its own.

Menorca Airport first opened in 1969. It has undergone regular renovations until its last major refit completed in 2008. However, it does not serve as a base or hub for any major carrier. 

Airlines at Menorca Airport

Although over thirty carriers serve Menorca Airport, most of them offer only seasonal flights to the island.  Only Air Europa, Iberia, Iberia Regional, Ryanair and Vueling offer year-round flights, and these are from domestic connections.

If you wish to fly to Menorca in the off-season, you will need to connect through Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia or Palma de Mallorca.

In summer, during tourist season, Menorca Airport gets very busy. International and domestic flights from the following carriers begin to arrive:  Air Europa, Air France, EasyJet, British Airways, Ryanair, Tui Airways, TUIfly Deutschland, Vueling, Volotea and Jet2.com carry some of the most extensive flight schedules from mainland Europe and the UK.

Routes at Menorca Airport

All summer, regular international flights from the following destinations Berlin–Tegel, Bordeaux, Bristol, London–Gatwick, London–Luton, Lyon, Manchester, Milan–Malpensa, Naples, Nice, Paris–Charles de Gaulle, Toulouse, Venice. Flights from most major European cities transit the Menorca Airport daily.

Domestic connections are also available all summer to most major airports and tourist centres in Spain. Some of the available domestic routes include Alicante, Ibiza, Lisbon, Pamplona, Porto, Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, and Valencia. Barcelona, Seville, Gran Canaria, Malaga, Bilbao and Granada are also on the list.

Terminals

Menorca Airport is a single terminal international airport. It has 16 boarding gates, only five of which join to the main terminal by jetways.

The main terminal building spreads over three different levels. Arrivals are located on the ground level, where arriving passengers collect their baggage and also have access to transportation throughout the island.

The first level is reserved for departures and check-in. Once checked in, passengers proceed to the second level where they also pass immigration control and security to proceed to the gates for boarding.

Facilities

Menorca Airport is not very large, but it does have all the services domestic and international travellers would expect to find in an international airport.

There are food facilities in the Arrivals Hall and Departure Areas. there are also play areas to entertain smaller children in both zones.

On level 3 a new VIP lounge is open to all passengers (at a cost). 

Airside in the Departures Area, you will find a chemist, retail shops, a selection of fast-food restaurants as well as somewhere to get a quick drink. Duty-free shopping and a delicatessen selling local specialities are also in the Departure Areas on level 1.

Outside the passenger areas are a souvenir shop and also a newsagent. All other retail services are in the Departures Lounge after the security check.

Other services available to passengers include Free WiFi, ATMs. There are also reduced mobility/accessibility services.

For smokers, there are two smoking lounges, but no tobacco products are sold within the departure areas.
