Rota is a town located in the province of Cadiz in the southwest part of Spain. The city of Cádiz is located east of Rota, on the other side of Cádizbukta as Rota is located at. It takes nearly one hour to drive to Cadiz, and it lives around. 30 000 inhabitants in Rota (2005).
Rota is an old city that was first built by the Phoenicians, then taken over by the Romans before the Moors arrived, and ultimately controlled by Christians. One of the city’s historic sights is the Castillo de la Luna which means moon castle or palace, and was built in the 1200s. Rota also offers various water sports, beaches and a national park.
It is approx. 40 km from Jerez Airport to the north, also known as La Parra Airport.
