Facts about hiring a car from Valencia airport

Most of the major car hire suppliers can are at Valencia airport. Budget, Avis, Enterprise, Atesa, Hertz, Europcar and thrifty all have desks in the arrivals terminal. Alamo is also onsite, but they share the Europecar desk.

If you have rented through Firefly, you won’t find them in the Arrivals Hall, but don’t be concerned, they have a kiosk in the parking garage where you pick up your car.

Picking up your rental car

Valencia airport has a great rental car pickup system. All the major hire car suppliers are in the Arrivals Hall.  They all also have windows at the back of their offices near belts 6, 7 and 8 in the baggage claim.  You can actually begin your car hire process while you wait for your baggage to arrive.

Now that you have claimed your bags and collected your keys, head to the car park.

Cross the road and head to the far right of the parking garage. Keep going until you see the car rental signs — do not take your first entrance. Hire car parking for all suppliers is generally on the ground floor.

If your rental agreement is with Click & Rent, Goldcar, Sixt and Dickmanns you will have to take a shuttle. generally, shuttles depart from outside the main entrance of the departures level.

Dropping off your rental car

Unfortunately, while they make it easy to pick up a hire car at Valencia Airport, dropping off your rental may not be so straight forward.

Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Atesa, Hertz, Thrifty and Europcar all have easy return locations. If you rent from Alamo, you can return your car hire to Europcar. The Firefly rental desk is in the car park.

When you come into the Airport from the main road, follow the rental car signs past the main terminal. The rental return area is on the left and clearly marked by signs.

Look for your car hire suppliers kiosk and return your keys. Be aware that in low travel seasons the booths may not be staffed. With this in mind, you will need to return the keys inside in the arrivals hall.

For all other companies, follow their instructions. This usually means returning the car to the same location you picked it up. All companies will have a shuttle to get you to your flight provided that you budget plenty of time to get there.

Valencia Airport (VLC, LEVC), also called Manises Airport, is the 10th busiest Airport in Spain. It is 8 km west of Valencia, so it is relatively easy to reach. There are flight connections to Valencia from over 20 countries in Europe, consequently, 8.53 million passengers moved through it in 2019.

The regional terminal, car parking facilities and apron area were all last upgraded for the 2007 America’s Cup. In 2008. Valencia is very much a local airport in many ways, with lower traffic than its sister airports in some of the major tourist destinations. Significantly, it has not been a hub or base for a major carrier since 2008.

Valencia serves as one of the main gateways to the region but is not as busy as nearby Alicante Airport in tourist arrivals. Alitalia, Air Europa, Easy Jet, Eurowings, Lufthansa, Ryan Air, British Airways, Iberia Regional Vueling, and Wizz Air all serve Valencia Airport year-round. Most Airlines lay on additional seasonal flights in the summer.

Regional flights out of Valencia airport include regular routes to Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga, Bilbao, Ibiza, Menorca, Palma de Mallorca, Seville.

Some of Valencia Airports seasonal  connections include Asturias, Badajoz, Fuerteventura, Granada, Gran Canaria, Jerez de la Frontera, Lanzarote, Santander and Tenerife–North.

Terminals

Unlike most Spanish Airports, Valencia has three passenger terminals. Terminals 1 and 2, and a Regional terminal.

Terminal 1 is the core of the Main Building while Terminal 2 is at the far southern end. Terminals 1 and 2 host National and international flights, both for Schengen and Non-Schengen passengers.

Terminal 1 has its Arrivals Hall on the ground floor. Level 1 is Departures and Check-in. Boarding Gates A, B, C, D, E and F are all on Level 1.

Terminal 2 contains a Departures Hall, check-in counters, and a boarding area which is between itself and Terminal 1. It serves boarding gates E15,-17 and F18.  Security and passport control are based there as well.

Terminal 2 has no Arrivals Hall.  To be clear, all arrivals pass through Terminal 1.

Facilities 

Both terminals have food and drink concessions, retail shops and most of the amenities you would expect to find in airport serving 6 million passengers per year. Terminal 1 also contains a VIP lounge and duty-free area, the conference facilities and chapel are on level 2.
